GlobalFest 2006

Globalfest is back for another year in Calgary, starting next week on the 16th of August. For those living in Calgary, or any tourists, come and checks out the awesome fireworks (Canada is back after a year off) and fascinating cultural pavilions throughout the City of Calgary. General Background of Globalfest "The misson of Globalfest is to produce for the people of Calgary and visitors to our city, a world class, multi-cultural festival and international fireworks competition that will offers the viewing public an affordable and acessible multi-faceted cultural experience. It is the intention of GlobalFest to use this platform to generate cultural awareness of and significant funding for local community groups as well as foster economic development in East Calgary and beyond." "GlobalFest burst into the scene in 2003 with 10 cultural pavilons and 3 countries competing in the international fireworks. On the fourth and final night of the international competition, the festival celebrated a remarkable accomplishment. The festival had attendance of close to 100,000 in the very first year, making GlobalFest one of Calgary's top draws for local citizens and tourists alike." The countries are South Africa, Germany, Canada (back from a year off), and the returning champ, Hong Kong. Schedules: Friday Aug 18 @ 7pm. - The competition start off with South Africa leading the pack. Sunday Aug 20 @ 7pm- Germany Tuesday Aug 22 @ 7pm - Canada Thursday Aug 24 @ 7pm- Hong Kong Saturday Aug 26 @ 7pm -Finale, GlobalFest Trophy Ceremony ticket: $10 online, Marlborough mall, Co-op, or at the door $15 Come checks out the 15 cultural pavilions this year. Last year, I helped out a friend by volunteering for the Vietnamese pavilion so I didn't get to check many other pavilions. The one I was able to check out was the Dances of the Middle East, and America Hispana..It was cool.
